The Ender 3 is a 3D printer manufactured by Creality. The company was founded in June of Creality is currently based out of Shenzen, China. The brand is well-known for manufacturing various products within the 3D printing industry.

The Ender 3 works like a standard FDM printer. You will need a roll of 1. Gcode files can be accessed on the Ender 3 using an SD card. When a print is complete, remove it from the print bed—use a scraper if necessary.

For a detailed guide on setting up and using the Ender 3, visit our Ender 3 Review. The Ender 3 usually ships with an older version of Marlin firmware. We highly recommend updating the firmware on your Ender 3 as soon as possible. To install the update, you will need an Arduino Uno to create a bootloader. The board can be connected directly to the Ender 3 to flash the firmware update. Check out our guide for more details on how to install a bootloader and update Marlin firmware on the Ender 3.

The Ender 3 bed is leveled using knobs underneath to adjust the height. A sheet of paper must be placed between the nozzle and bed. Use the leveling feature built into the printer UI—the tool will move the nozzle to each corner of the bed. Adjust the knob until the paper moves with very little tension. Repeat until each corner is leveled. The Ender 3 has a built-in heated bed useful for printing filament like ABS. The default printer bed can be upgraded with a glass bed—making it easier to remove final prints.

You probably won't print at that speed but it does help reduce nozzle travel time. The Ender 3 ships with Marlin firmware.

This software is standard with most 3D printers. It can be upgraded with a bootloader and features plenty of tools to operate your printer to the fullest extent. The Ender 3 can print gcode files.

These can be sliced using any slicing software. We typically use Cura, which has definitely established itself in the 3D printing community as a reliable slicer.

But there are plenty of others online worth trying like Slic3r.

Test center of bed to confirm a completely flat bed. Raise or lower other 4 corners and re-level if necessary. Note: Make sure there is no extra pressure on the bed. Any pressure on the bed will cause incorrect leveling due to the compression of the springs on the leveling screws. You must log in to post a comment. Callibrating G-Codes. When checking the Start Gcode, there is nothing to set the temps. I've realised the start gcode from 4. Should I be adding the temp gcode from Cura 4.

Cura 4. My first print with Cura 4. I inserted the old gcode, tested, and it worked. You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Sign up for a new account in our community. It's easy! If there is no referrence to those temperatures, cura will insert them before the start gcode.

At least this was the logic in the 4. I repasted the cura 4. Don't know what happened to fix it.I have been using Cura with my Ender 3 since I got my printer just over a year ago.

I am trying to move to a new slicer, prusa Slicer obviously. But something is very wrong. I either missed a setting or messed something up. Was watching the printer as it started, bed heated up, then hot end started to heating but then it started the EZABL mesh generation. Normally it heats the hot end, then does the mesh generation, pauses for the hot end to hit desired temp, then prints. Have looked thru the setting and don't see what I missed, re-copied my g-code and it did it again.

My start G-Code is copied straight out of cura, have printed with it for along time, even printed earlier today. Regards Joan. It list the ender 3 under other vendor printers in the setup wizard, yes I know it is beta but figured I would try it.

I just think its a bit dangerous to generated gcode that is obviously not going to work. This issue was apparently brought up on github months ago oct but apparently is being ignored. The reason I was looking to move to prusa slicer is because I just order an MK3 and was looking to move to a unified slicer once I get my printer in a month or so.

Hi, I have just added Creality ender 3 to my Prusa slicer version 2. Which translates to No, to my knowledge ender 3 don't come with bed leveling, I added mine myself. My prusa slicer version is 2. Below is the gcode generated by prusa, the gcode in red is my custom start gcode which is for my EZABL. I took out my custom start gcode and get the same start code, just without my leveling, still only a M G4 S10; wait for heaters to recover G92 E0 ; reset extruder. I have figured out what the difference is after many tries.

I checked the box so I could change the name, but apparently check that box also removes the gcode it generates for the ender 3. If I don't check the box it adds the custom start gcode below. The only reason I checked the box was to change the name, so it not something generic, doesn't tell you it going to wipe out all the settings. There are 4 different temperature related G-Codes to remember that are similar but different. I don't see a "set and do wait" for the extruder in your start g-code so you may be trying to print before your extruder has reached your filament temperature.

I'm not sure if your firmware includes that behavior thought I think that is standard Marlin. Some people's start gcodes mine included use this behavior. The Ender 3 Pro comes partially assembled. The base of the printer containing the print bed and the Y axis back and forth control as well as most of the wiring are already assembled before leaving the factory.

To finish putting the printer together will require connecting the remaining parts to the base using less than 2 dozen bolts, and then plugging up a few wires to the various motors.

How to print a Thingiverse file on a 3d printer.

The instructions that come with the printer do not have words, just pictures. Fortunately several decades of assembling Lego kits served me well in figuring out what needed to be done. Once you unpack everything you will need to attach the uprights to the base. Then you connect the gantry arm to the uprights. The gantry will control the X left and right and Z up and down axis movement. Once that is completed, you only have a few more bolts to tighten up and a couple of wires to plug in and your printer is ready to start printing.

Sorry that I did not take pictures of the assembly process, but the process is straight forward and the images in the instruction manual are easy to understand. I will be linking to a bunch of different 3D print files that I found on Thingiverse.

I do not have affiliation with any of these authors except myself lolI am simply providing access to the files I used to set up my printer. If you want to use different test prints feel free to look around, there are lots of options.

Once the printer is assembled the next vital step is to make sure the bed is level in relation to the print head. There are 4 knobs, one on each corner of the bed, that will raise and lower that corner. Turning the knob to the left raises the bed towards the print nozzle, turning it to the right lowers the bed.

To properly space your bed away from your nozzle, you want them close enough together that when you have a single sheet of paper between the bed and nozzle there should be a slight amount of friction when you try to move the paper. It is a simple test that prints 3 passes around the perimeter of the bed and then it prints a filled circle at each of the corners as well as the center of the bed.

Push the button on the printer after testing each corner the printer says something like "waiting for user" to go on to the next corner. After stopping at each corner twice, it will print several skirts around the bed you can continue to adjust height as needed as the skirts printthen a disc in each corner and a disc in the middle to check adhesion. There are literally thousands of videos available on youtube regarding 3D printing.

I watched a lot of different videos to learn about the printer that I got and how to set it up to get the best results. One of the better youtube channels that I found was Teaching Tech. Michael does a great job of clearly explaining each test and how making changes to the printer will affect your print results. The arms print at increasing angles of overhang from 10 to 80 degrees. If you look closely at the picture of the backside of the arm you will see that it is not until after 60 degrees that the print starts to get ripply yep.
